Academic writers' groups

The English Unit runs writers’ groups for small groups of young academics, from the second year of doctoral research to the post-doctoral level. The aim of these groups is to support the later stages of thesis and related writing, as well as writing for publication. Academic writers’ groups provide a way for the participants to work on their writing in a semi-structured setting.

Text Revision and Feedback

You are entitled to ask for text revision if you fulfil the following conditions:

• you have been exempted from attending an academic writing course, or

• you are attending a first-year academic writing course, or

• you have attended at least 80% of a first-year academic writing course

Individual Consultations

Individual consultations are open to all members of the EUI community with questions about the use of the English language and academic skills.

Placement Tests

During the interviews for places at the EUI all candidates to the HEC, Law, and SPS Departments must sit an oral and written language test. Candidates to the Economics Department sit a language test at the beginning of their second year.

Anyone else wishing to follow an academic writing course must take a placement test before being admitted to a course. For further information contact the Language Centre Assistant.
